Three hundred ISD students from the construction, welding, automotive, and other programs learned about apprenticeship training opportunities and careers in the trades Thursday.  Representatives from the U.P. Construction Council and several trades explained how students can get good paying careers without college debt, and start working right after graduation through apprenticeship programs.  While in the hands-on training, salaries range around $16 per hour plus full benefits, and after they become journeymen, salaries are around $35 per hour plus benefits.  Construction student, Dustin Nelson, assisted John Kleiber from the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers trade in demonstrating some of the safety gear used in all the trades.
