Most kids go to summer camp to learn about nature, but a group of U.P. middle school students are learning about technology and trade careers.
The Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District held the second day of their Careers In Technology Summer Camp.
More than 30 students are spending their summer learning about various trades such as automotive, welding, and machining careers.
The goal is to allow students to see what the trades are all about and what ones may suit them in the future.
"Some of them come with some knowledge, some with zero knowledge. So we're just trying to provide them with a base of knowledge so they can come later in life and say 'Hey, I want to take this class, or I don't want to take this class, or I want to go into this for a living', because our whole goal here at Career Tech is to give them opportunities to explore their futures," said Trent Bellingar, the CT Director for the Delta-Schoolcraft Career Tech Center.
The summer camp is funded partly through a grant from "Nuts, Bolts, and Thingamajigs," a program sponsored by the Fabricators and Manufacturer's Association.
