Child Find

Child Find is a requirement under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that requires schools to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities, ranging from birth to age 21, who may qualify for special education services.

Screenings and evaluations are free and confidential through the DSISD to help locate as early as possible all children with disabilities who are in need of early intervention and special education services.

Child Find activities are coordinated by Early On (birth–age 3) and the Child Find team (ages 3–5).
Children who may be suspected of having a disability or a delay in one or more of the following areas are offered an appropriate, no-cost programplacement if needed:
  • Physical, Adaptive, Cognitive, Communication,
  • Social, and Emotional Developments
  • Hearing
  • Vision
